Question

Files disappear from catalogue, not visible to import module

Hey,

I’m stacking in PS from LRC, saving works fine, flagging, color label works fine. During the same session, these files disappear from LRC. They’re on the disk. I can’t import them, the import module won’t “see” them.

I also had/have no specific sort order. For now, this is resolved, it has been working flawlessly after physically removing and rebuilding the files.

I can sense quite a bit of - understandable - frustration @dj_paige - I should have described the issue more in depth, so it didn’t read like “hey, I installed LR yesterday and I have a problem” - I was in a rush to get a solution while being in the next shoot. And yes, I HAVE inadvertedly pressed keyboard shortcuts before, and since LR is the only software I learned using without those, it is very well possible I just don’t know enough to count as a “safe” person to ask questions here.

Thanks for taking the time @dj_paige & @JohanElzenga

SOmetimes, the sort order in LrC causes this to happen, if for example, the folder is sorted by the date of the last edit. In this case, the photo becomes the first (or last) photo in the sequence.

Change the sort order in LrC to Capture Time or File Name.

Most likely you have an active filter that filters them out when you make a certain adjustment. Example: because you add labels and flags, you may be filtering on ‘no color label’ and/or ‘no flag’, so you only see the images that still need to be worked on. But that means an image will disappear from view (not from the catalog!) when you have added a color label and a flag.

Importing is never the solution to fix problems. This is so important, I am going to say it in big bold capital letters. IMPORTING IS NEVER THE SOLUTION TO FIX PROBLEMS.

A possibility is if you are using a Smart Collection, sometimes if you edit the files they no longer appear in the Smart Collection, this would be expected behavior of some Smart Collections (not all Smart Collections). If that’s what happens, then probably you shouldn’t be doing this editing in a Smart Collection. You can always find your photos in “All Photographs” or the appropriate folder in the Folder Panel.

If that’s not it, please describe the problem in a lot more detail, and show us screen captures of the entire LrC screen before and after the “disappearance”.

I’m not using any collection, filter or anything but the bare LRD Library Module.

It doesnt happen with all files, most just work as expected -

    1. I select,
    2. open as layers
    3. process the stack via PS action
    4. save, the file is there,
    5. I flag it, mark it green.
    6. Some just “arent’t there” in LR anymore at some rather unspecific point. It started yesterday on the train, I thought I had messed up the PS action but it performs as expected - LR just “forgets” the files

Won’t work among certain groups of pictures though, I found, as marked with “X” in the screenshots. I cannot tell when the files “disappear” from LR, because I’ve long scrolled to one other stack. When I want to revisit, den files are “gone”, but physically present on the HDD.

Thus, I have now removed the physical images and re-run the missing stacks. Appears to be working now. I have no clue what caused this. My drives appear to be fine..

Obviously, you are not intentionally filtering, but people sometimes click the mouse on something without realizing it, and then the behavior of the software makes no sense. Please verify that you have no Filters in use by actually viewing the Filter Bar to confirm.

Your are using LrC, not LRD and not LR.
