Question

Filter not remembering each source separately

This is a new bug. It worked in LrC v14 (and all versions before that for the last 10 years or so).

I am running LrC v 15.0.1 on Windows 11. I have checked File -> Library Filters -> Remember Each Source's Filter Separately. (Also "Enable Filters and "Lock filters" are checked).

I am usine various filters for individual folders. What happens is that LrC sometimes remebers the filter, but sometimes the filter is overriden by another one from a previously viewed folder (as if "Remember ... Separately" was unchecked)

Steps to reproduce (on my PC at least):
Folder 1: Set some Filter 1
Go to Folder 2: Set different Filter 2
Go back to Folder 1: The Filter 1 is there as expected
Go back to Folder 2: Now there is unexpectedly Filter 1 as well, instead of Filter 2

I am not exactly sure why it sometimes works, but it fails very quickly, so to replicate it is usually enough to just keep switching folders 🙂

I can't reproduce your problem on my Mac. Lightroom Classic 15.0.1 remembers the filters for each source as it should. So if this is really a bug, it would be Windows only. Try resetting the preferences. Corrupted preferences can cause all kinds of problems, and certainly something like this.

Great tip, thanks, I forgot that this is an option. After a few folder changes it appeared to be fine, but then it happened again.

This time, just switching folders (about 10 times) wasn't enough - I had to switch to yet another folder or switch t another app or select a few images or slow down. But even after the reset of preferences I was already able to reproduce it at least 5 times. But another maybe 40 folder switches were fine, huh? I am not sure if there is some rule or it happens almost randomly.

I ca't find any menu item or checkbox for "Lock Filters" - do you mean the padlock icon at right end of the Filter bar, in Library? If so, as I understand it to have this in locked state means: "whatever filtering you are currently viewing, should continue to be seen the same on the next folder viewed also, regardless of how that may have been differently last seen".

This result would be the opposite of what you say you want, it seems to me. The padlock should show unlocked for that.

Thank you, but that is doing something different.

The padlock is the same what I see in the menu (pictured below), but unlocked just RESETs the filter to "No filter" when user changes the folder.

When locked then current filter is kept when changing folder.

But with locked plus "Remember .... separately", then when changing folders, you should get a completely different filter that you have set last time you visited that folder. So then each individual folder has its own individual filter saved (but sadly with this bug it is no longer restored properly).

In any case, the behavior I described is inconsistent. So no matter the settings, it doesn't work correctly at least some times.
