Fixing photo flash In LR Classic

I want to fix a photo flash in a picture. Maybe it can be done OK with masks; please provide the answer.

 

I also want tips on doing it another way.

This can be done in masking indeed but is not trivial. Basically add a new mask with a brush set to a fairly large feather and brush over the area affected. Then scroll down to the point color area in the mask settings and hit the dropper. Drop a point in the brighter area due to the glare. Then move the luminance shift on that swatch down to -70 or so, Sat shift to +30 and Hue shift to -32 or so and you get this:

I am sure with more time you can do better.

This is trivial in Photoshop and that's definitely where I'd do it. A Levels or Curves layer, and soft/low opacity brushing in the mask to slowly build up the adjustment.

 

If channels are close to clipping it's a different matter, but that's not the case here.
