Flagging photos makes them move

Since a couple of days ago, when I use the "P" key to flag photos in Library grid view, the picked photos instantly move to the very top of the grid (and to the very left of the filmstrip view). In other words, flagging several photos as "picks" makes them accumulate at the top left of the grid, where they form an ever longer line the more of them I flag.

At the same time, with each and every act of flagging, the overall view of the grid snaps to the top. That is, I lose my place. This is inconvenient, because I then have to scroll back down to where I left off. And when there are hundreds of photos, this can waste quite a bit of time.

Before, when I pressed "P" to flag a photo, the flag icon appeared on the thumbnail but no thumbnails jumped anywhere: they just stayed put and I carried on flagging the next ones.

I must have changed something to instigate this jumping behavior, but I don't know what. I reset "Filter by flag" in the Library menu in case that was the problem, but it made no difference.

So my question is: "How can I make Lightroom go back to keeping flagged photos in their original position in the Library and not jumping to the top?"

Any advice appreciated.

Which type of sort option do you have set in the grid?

Please try to reset the Lightroom preferences to the default settings.

I've been having the same problem since yesterday and assumed I had ticked the wrong box but whether I have it set to "Capture Time" or "Name," it still sorts by "Pick" I have hundreds of images I can't sort normally when I flag them or add stars or a color label (I generally use a combination of the three and have had the same sorting system since Lightroom 1.0) and now I can't add a star, color and flag to the same image without finding it three times, It add the flag to the first, jumps and ended up adding the stars tothe next, then the color to the third. I've restarted LR and my computer, check all the Catalog and general Preferences, and it won't resolve.

You’ve posted to a very old thread. It is highly unlikely that the issue described in this thread, though not impossible, is the same issue which you are currently experiencing. Rather than resurrect an old thread that is seemingly similar, you are better posting to a new thread with fresh, complete information including system information, a complete description of the problem and step-by-step instructions for reproduction.

In the unlikely event the issue is the same, we will merge you back into the appropriate location.

Thank you!

Thank you! View→Sort was the problem (and the solution!)

Somehow I had selected "Pick" but have reverted it to "Capture Time."
