Folder being added to laptop hard drive automatically when creating catalog

Question

I store all my images and catalogs on an external SSD drive. However, whenever I create a catalog a folder on RAW files is being added to my laptops hardrive. I'm not sure what these files are, or why they are automatically adding to my laptop, when everything else is on an external SSD. It's an issue as my laptop hardrive is full, and when I deleted on of these folders, the images in lighroom have an 'i' and say the original file cannot be located. Please help! I just want everything to be in one place on my external drive.

I use a Mac.

when I deleted on of these folders, the images in lighroom have an 'i' and say the original file cannot be located sounds like you are (accidentally?) importing the RAW files onto your internal HD, and then you have deleted the folder. Import the photos onto the external SSD, and then click on the ! icon to pont LrC to the location of the photos on the external SSD.
