Question

Folders not showing up in CATALOG anymore

When I first started using Lightroom, any time I opened a new folder to work on some images, the folder was automatically added to my CATALOG in the LIBRARY tab.

For some reason, now they are not being added to my CATALOG, so my work is not being saved and I cannot refer back to previously edited images.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Thanks!

This sounds like you have accidentally imported the photos by copying them to a folder that isn't the folder you expect them to be in. If that's the case, then your photos are imported into Lightroom, and your edits are also in Lightroom. So please try this procedure, be sure to perform all four steps:

1.   In the Lightroom Library Module, on the left, under Catalog, click on All Photographs

2.   Turn off all filters (Ctrl-L once or twice)

3.   Turn off all stacking (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks)

4.   Search for at least one of these photos by file name using the Lightroom Filter Bar

i have a feeling i have done "copy" instead of "add" or "move" at the time of importing the files. and despite following the above four step process i am not able to re-edit these files. some 7000 photos are locked for me. even in Lightroom it is showing that the drive is locked for these photos. On the same hard drive i can see a few of the photos and cant see these 7000 which seem to show as in a locked D:/ drive.

You are posting in a five years old thread. Don't do this. If you have a problem, then start a new thread and describe the problem in detail. Also mention version numbers of your OS and of Lightroom. Right now, it is not even clear which version you use, Lighrtroom Classic or Lightroom (the cloud version).

Lightroom CC doesn't have a Library tab. What version of Lightroom are you referring to?

Hey Jim, Sorry my bad. I'm referring to the FOLDERS section in the left column while in the LIBRARY tab (not the CATALOG section)

See attached image. Area boxed in pink.

So apparently you are working with Lightroom Classic CC. This forum is for the new cloud-based Lightroom CC. However, what you are describing might be what I encounter, but maybe not. Whenever I import new images I can move to other folders that I have imported previously by accessing them in the library module. But to go back to the images that I just imported I have to choose "Previous Import" from the list because it seems that Lightroom hasn't added the new folder to the library list yet. I can change that by right clicking on one of the images while in the Library module and choosing the option to go to the folder in Library. That will add that new folder to the library list. I don't know if that is what you are encountering. But from what you describe, it might help.
