Forced to sign in to Adobe account to use Lightroom Classic

I recently purchased the Photography plan and installed Lightroom Classic (LrC).  Now every time I launch LrC, it brings me to the Library but the Creative Cloud sign in screen pops up after a few seconds.  If I don't sign in, it automatically closes out LrC.  Being a desktop application, I thought you did not have to connect to Adobe to use LrC.  One of the selling points of the desktop version is being able to work "offline".  Am I missing something?

You have to be signed in to your Creative Cloud account in order for the apps in your subscription plan to function (an anti-piracy measure). However, each "sign in" will last up to at least 30 days, allowing you to work offline until the next "sign in" is required....provided you don't sign out in between times. Normal procedure is to sign-in to the Creative Cloud desktop app, and leave that app running in the background (and let it start automatically whenever you reboot your system). If you don't go offline you'll never be bothered by that sign-in screen, and if you are offline you'll need to go online occasionally to renew your "signed in" status.

Thank you for the quick reply.  I am a bit confused though since you state "each "sign in" will last up to at least 30 days, allowing you to work offline until the next "sign in" is required....provided you don't sign out in between times".  Doesn't that imply you need to be continually signed in since the 30 day limit only holds if "you don't sign out in between times"?  What happens if you operate in the field w/o internet connection.  Does that mean you can't use LrC?

Here's the official Adobe document covering "offline" use. It appears a better situation than I remembered.
