Generative Ai failed

Every time I try to remove something using generative AI on Lightroom Classic, I suddenly now get “!Generative Remove Failed. Something went wrong. Please Try again”

I have restarted Lightroom, and my computer. Logged out and back in.

This worked before, and this suddenly started happening.

@gary_sc I’m on a Mac, so I do not have any firewall or anything to exclude LR from the services’ rules

Small technical note: Mac does have a firewall built-in, but by default it only filters incoming network requests to apps, not outgoing network packets.  It is possible to configure that firewall to filter outgoing network packets, but only via the command line.  I think it’s more common for people to use third-party packages to do such advanced firewalling.

@gary_sc I do not have a VPN, I’m on a Mac, so I do not have any firewall or anything to exclude LR from the services’ rules, and I only have one network to link to. Still, about 1 out of maybe 15–20 or so times, I use Adobe AI; I get that message, click OK, try again, and it goes right through.

It’s definitely possible that this is the Adobe Firefly servers responding that they are overloaded.  But given the frequency you’re reporting, I’d think there would be a lot more reports here from other users of the same error message.

Thus, I think it’s more likely there is some network device (e.g. an ISP’s router) between your computer and Adobe’s servers that is infrequently and incorrectly blocking network packets to/from your computer and Adobe.

If your cell provider allows hotspotting, you could try connecting your LR computer via the hotspot. Or if you have a neighbor with an available Wifi connection, or if it’s a laptop, at a coffee shop, etc.  But given the frequency you’re reporting, such a test may not be dispositive.

The next time this occurs, could you please:

    1. Post a full-resolution screenshot of the error message.

    2. In Finder, do the menu command Go > Go To Folder and copy/paste this line:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom

In that folder, attach the file “lrc_console.log” here.

There are several different poorly written LR error messages displayed for different network errors, and this could identify the particular network error occurring.

Hi @johnrellis, sounds easy enough. The next time this happens, I’ll do that. However, now that I have this new “tool” to help resolve the issue, I expect it will take a very long time before the next incident. 😁

    To be continued…

That poorly written error message usually indicates an anti-malware package, a VPN, a firewall, a router, or a server somewhere on the network path between LR and Adobe's servers has incorrectly blocked the request from LR to Adobe's Firefly servers

    Try these troubleshooting steps:

    - Don't use a VPN to connect to the Internet.

    - Temporarily disable all the firewall/anti-virus/security services on your computer, including Microsoft Defender. If that solves the problem, then add a specific exclusion for LR to the services' rules.

    - Connect to another network, preferably one serviced by a different ISP. E.g. a Wifi connection of a neighbor, a coffee shop, work, or your phone's hotspot. Sometimes the routers in these networks block some of LR's requests, especially in authoritarian countries like China.

Hi, @johnrellis, well, none of those apply to me; I do not have a VPN, I’m on a Mac, so I do not have any firewall or anything to exclude LR from the services’ rules, and I only have one network to link to. Still, about 1 out of maybe 15–20 or so times, I use Adobe AI; I get that message, click OK, try again, and it goes right through.

My guess has always been that I’m trying to access the AI during a rush of other folks accessing things, and I just needed to wait a moment for a bit of space for me.

I occasionally get that as well. What I”ve found, howerver, is that if I do it again immediately after receiving that, it works just fine.

I have no information as to why it fails or why it recovers on the 2nd attempt. I’ve never needed a third.

I know that really doesn’t tell you anything, but it’s the best I could tell you.
