grid-view thumbnails generation should be background automatic!

I don't want to generate standard or full size previews for all my pics because I have a huge catalog, but I want my thumbnails all rendered - is it too much to ask? It is very sad that in 2024 I still see blank thumbnails in grid-view that only generate if I scroll to this place in my catalog. Why can't Lightroom just generate thumbnails automatically in the background like all other photo apps do is beyond me.
