Hopefully someone can answer this for me, I cannot find anything in the forums, or I do not know how to ask it. Totally, totally frustrated.

Due to other computer problems, I had to create a new user in my Mac, 10.13 High Sierra. The other user does not allow me to print to my printer. This user allows printing. So, put my Lightroom catalogue and previews folder into the shared folder. tired to open LR in the new user. Said the file was not available, so I went back and made the folder available  to read and write, but had to go to each file (catalogue and previews to make each individual file read and write. each time I opened LR it told me the catalogue, then the previews still not fixed. no question marks, all looks totally normal except a grey picture space. All my presets are gone, but I f go back to the original user, everything is there, I just cannot print. Apple is working on that issue, advanced tech support, thats have stuck it is, so I cannot go back there.

Finally it opened, and completely populated all the information form the catalogue, all the way to down to stars, picks, label colors, etc. and to keywords also. even has the histogram for the photo showing. but no images to be seen, only grey squares, still grey if  click on them to make them full screen. I left the computer open all night in case it was an issue of building previews, but nothing.

Now its getting even weirder, if I click on an image in the development module I can see it. click on the next image, I can see it. click on the 3rd image the first one disappears. if an image is visible in the develop module can see it in the library, but if I click on the next image in the library I cannot see it.

please help, Adobe is not open until Monday, and I have to go to work, so will not get to talk to them until the evening if I am lucky. in the meantime I have a deadline that should have been finished today.

thanks

Joyce

Correct answer Jao vdL

That sounds like the preview database is bad or not available to your new user.

The printer problem in your original user should be fairly easy to fix by resetting the printing system (macOS Sierra: Reset the printing systeem. and then redoing the printer by hitting the plus.

Thanks Jao

I rechecked the permissions on the preview file, and you are right, they were back on read only. But I know for sure that I changed those last night to read and write........arrgghh. so that is fixed, and yes!!!! the previews show up. Many many thanks.

for the apple problem, been there done that many times over the last week. a week ago that fix allowed me to print for the evening, but when I came back 3 days later it had reverted to busy USB or something else was blocking the USB. Been through stuff with Canon (printer folks) and apple high level tech people and no matter what we do, its the same thing. cannot get it to go past that. have re downloaded the drivers, reinstalled multiple times, restarted, disc utilities, etc. etc....all other wifi based printers work fine except the USB one (the one I need).

thanks again, at least I can function in the new user, I hope......

Oh USB problems! Those are very frustrating. Are you using any hub in between? Those are often flaky and can cause these sort of issues. I've also seen low-quality USB cables cause disconnecting devices. It's very frustrating how flaky USB technology is.
