Help develope & export presets

until now, i ve had stored all my develop presets and my export presets within the lightroom folder under C:\user\stephan\appdata

\roaming\adobe\lightroom\develop presets & \export presets. In accordance to clean up my develope collection i have first yesterday realized, that the presets are stored within the camera raw as xml. but... i have deleted all my presets within the settings folder and i don’t get back any of them. A conversion out of the old develope presets folder (lrtemplates) is not working anymore. I organized my presets in separate folders and lrtemplates are still there. Have you any idea, how I get my presets back as xml again to work with and use them as I could until now?

is there a possibilty to convert the irrtemplates again into xml format?

same problem i have with my export presets. Where are these stored in the new, current version of LR classic CC?

maybe i will make a complete clean install of my LR installation to get working everything perfect and for removing all unneeded old stuff of all the previous version.

how have i to backup all my preferences to get back to the same lr-settings again after a complete un- & reinstall? Which files/folders have to be extracted on my ssd resp.  how do i backup everything out of LR  directly?

Another question I have is, how do I recreate new previews if I change the preview setting from 1:1 to standard?

Any help and hints are highly aprecciated. Many thanks and kind regards from Switzerland

Your old .lrtemplate presets have been renamed to '~~originalname.lrtemplate'. Those two tildes in front of the name tells Lightroom they have already been converted to .xmp presets. If you want to convert them again because you removed the .xmp presets by mistake, then remove the two tildes from their names. Then run Lightroom.

Export presets have not been changed at all. They are still stored where they were always stored. Remember that you can store these presets in two different places: either in their default location, or in the catalog folder if you check the option to store the presets with the catalog. If you switch between these two options, then your custom presets will not be moved to the new location and so they will disappear. You'll have to move them yourself manually.

You don't have to create new previews if you change the setting from 1:1 to standard. 1:1 previews are extra, not instead of.

Thank you for the detailed information and i got back now my xml presets out of lrtemplates. One issue i don‘t figure out is with my preset folders within settings. If i rename these folders in LR directly the folder is renamed only in LR but not in the settings tree in windows explorer. Do i have to rename the folders twice or can you explain me in details how this works?

regarding my export presets these i‘m still missing. In which folder are these stored exactly? i have my export lrtemplates still available in the „old“ export folder and as it was used before the the change xml format of LR. Is the an additional folder created by lightroom for the xml export presets?

another question, if i would like to backup my LR preferences, keywords, local adjustments etc. Which folders do i have to copy over to my backup drive? Is the lightroom develope preset folder still in use by current LR versions or do i have only to copy over the setting folder within camera raw for a backup of my presets?

i‘m really a bit confused for the moment and i don’t understand detailed the new folder and file philosophy of the current version. That‘s why. I have to mention too, that i didn‘t used LR for 5-6 months. Post processings is for me a typical work in the colder months:-).

many many thanks for your kind support.

Subfolders in your Settings folder have no function anymore. With the new XMP presets the groups are stored inside the preset itself, and managed through Lightroom (or Camera Raw). If you really want to use folders, you can restore the old behavior with this plugin.

As I already explained, there are no export presets in XML. Your export presets are unchanged. As I also explained, you need to check if you perhaps changed the 'Store presets with this catalog' option in the Lightroom preferences. Go to the Lightroom Preferences - Presets and click the button 'Show All Other Lightroom Presets' to check which folder Lightroom is using.

Your presets are as discussed above, so backup that folder. Keywords, edits, local adjustments etc are all in the catalog file. Lightroom has an option to make a catalog file backup on quit. When the dialog for making a backup comes up, you can change the location of that backup in that dialog.
