Help moving photos in Lightroom Classic

My MacBook Pro was full so I moved all my photos to an external hard drive. I had some problems so I had to delete the catalog. How can I start a new primary catalog (or library if that’s the correct term) on my MacBook’s hard drive but have all my photos on an external SSD drive?

Why did you "have" to delete the Catalog? That contains data about your files.

Tell us exactly what you did and how please? 

All may not be lost. If you have the Catalog in the Trash - don't empty!!

Which OS and Lightroom Versions??

Import the photos from the external HD using the ADD option on the import screen.
