Tying to upgrade from LR v1.5 ro V15, it keeps failing when tryung to convert teh catalog file.  the Messggae is eitehr Corrupt or an Unknown error.

I use the Windows version, with the files on One Drive.

I have tried most of teh fixes mentioned - creating anew catalog and importing - failed
Moving files to Local drive and using a clean backup - failed etc

I have reinstalled v14.5 and system seems to be working.

What next?

If reinstalling LrC 14.5 makes the catalog usable, make sure it is not in a OneDrive folder, make a backup on another drive (which is also not in OneDrive).

Try upgrading that catalog from 14.5 again, all the while not using folders that are shared with OneDrive.

I have tried this.  Backup on C: drive and them importing into a new clean version of 14.5.2.  It tries but shortly I get the message “Lightroom could not import this catalog due to unknown error”.

I am now not using any One Drive folders, but I think the issue is the catalog rather ….

You said the catalog works in 14.5, then why are you importing into a new catalog? Please explain.

I said “Try upgrading that catalog from 14.5 again, all the while not using folders that are shared with OneDrive.” Its not clear if you tried taking the working catalog from 14.5 and then upgrading it in LrC 15. Importing into a 14.5.2 catalog is not upgrading.

It’s not recommended to store the Lightroom catalog on Onedrive. Move the catalog to a folder on your internal drive that isn’t sync with Onedrive and check again.

As above, I have done this and still get the Corrupted message….

    What next?

Can one run two different instances of LR - so I start a new catalog under v15 but keep access to the V14.5.2 to read my older files

No, you can’t run two instances of Lightroom.

In a former answer you wrote that you tried to import your backuped catalog into LR.

Why you tried to import? Do you have tried to open the catalog in Lightroom?

As I wrote you have a clean reinstallation of LrC 14.5.2. Right?

Create a new catalog on you internal drive without synching to OneDrive. Is this working? If yes, open your catalog which you last used (from the internal drive also without synching to OneDrive).

If this doesn’t work restore the catalog from one of the latest backup.

Aftere you get LrC14.5.2 get to work, install the update to LrC 15.1.1. convert your catalog on the first opening LrC 15 to the new version.

Don’t use the sync to OneDrive!!
