Help with files merging into one folder
Background: I was in the middle of restoring a Lightroom Classic catalog after a drive recovery. During the process, two folders got merged, let’s call them “June” and “July”. Both folders exist correctly on my external drive.
Current situation in Lightroom Classic 13.3:
- Only the June folder appears in the Folders panel
- It shows 1212 photos total — approximately 300 June images and 900 July images
- All images appear normal (no question marks or error badges), but they do have a white square that says Smart Preview.
- All images have edits I need to preserve
- When I click "Show in Explorer" on a July image, it correctly shows the file in the July folder on disk
- But the metadata panel shows the June folder as the location
- When I try to drag July images to a different folder in LR, it says "All files selected are missing. No files can be moved."
What I've already tried:
- Adding the July folder via Add Folder — resulted in 900 duplicate catalog entries, so I deleted the folder
What I need:
A safe way to relink the ~900 July images to the correct July folder on disk, without losing edits, and without affecting the ~300 June images that are correctly linked.
Thanks in advance!
