Hi,  for some reason, all my photos in lightroom have disappeared, in library , and all pictures it only says 1004 when there are many more, I have not done anything than what i normally do, just open lightroom , and nothing is there, this is really worrying, i have no idea why this has happened, all did was open lgithroom as normal, but it has all gone. the pictures are on an external hard drive, so i am at a loss as to what has happned.  i would be so grateful for any help.

thank you

"has the new update anything to do with this loss?"

Most likely is that the upgrade used an old, (or empty), catalog to upgrade. (It has been known to do that.)

But your photos should not have gone, you just need to find the correct catalog that references all your photos.

WIth Finder, search your system drives (both internal and external) for catalog files that have the file-type of .LRCAT.  [Double-click] on the .LRCAT file to open it.

Let us know what you find.

Screen-clips of your LrC screen showing the folder panel, and clips from Finder showing your photos in the external hard-drive.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .
