How can I deal with duplicate file names when moving files?
Using LR Classic with all updates installed. Assume I shoot photos with CameraA and other photos with CameraB. I import the files from CameraA into a folder named Parent. Next, I move the photos from Parent into folder Child using drag and drop within LR. I import the photos from CameraB into Parent. I then try to move the photos from Parent to Child using drag and drop. However, some of the files from CameraB have the same name as files from CameraA causing an Error While Moving Files dialog to display and listing the duplicate file names. The dialog contains two buttons, Save As and OK. Pressing OK closes the dialog. Clicking Save As opens the standard Windows Save dialog, which, I assume, is supposed to allow the user to save the duplicate files with a different name. However, you cannot save the image files because the file type in the Save dialog is hard-coded as .txt so you cannot see the image files. Is there any way to resolve the duplicate file name problem within LR other than noting the name of the duplicate files and manually renaming them one at a time?
I realize that many hgh end cameras let the user change the file prefix and this would prevent files from two cameras having the same name. I also realize that I could dump the files from CameraB into a folder and use the Bulk Rename Utility to add a prefix to the files before importing them into LR. My question is, is there a way to handle the duplicates within LR. Thanks.
