Question

How can I upload C-RAW images from Lightroom to Instagram as JPEGs without losing quality?”

I’m a nature photographer and until now I’ve been shooting in JPEG, but I’ve recently switched to C-RAW. I want to upload my photos to Instagram in the same size and quality, but no matter what export settings I use, the image never looks like the original.

The only time it looks right is when I set the image dimensions to small in Lightroom, but that changes the size of the crop, which I don’t want.

I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

The two images you posted are both 4032 x 2268 pixels.
I’m not on Instagram, but their help page says that the maximum width of an image is 1080 px, anything wider will be scaled down to 1080.

The Instagram image is indeed low quality, but it’s supposed to be 1080 pixels wide, not 4032.
Have you resized it? If you have enlarged it from 1080 to 4032 pixels, that would explain the low quality.

I photographed the image in landscape orientation. When I upload it to Instagram using the 16:9 format or the “Original” format, the image loses sharpness. As soon as I switch to the 1:1 format, the sharpness is fine and looks correct.

That's the quality on Instagram; you can't really tell that the quality is somewhat lower.

This is how the image looks in Lightroom. I like this quality.

I uploaded two screenshots for you. I used the image insertion symbol as you instructed, but it was still incorrect.

You told me to use the "insert image icon" which I did, but my process was still not correct.

I'm having trouble with this insert link. How am I supposed to insert screenshots using it?

Please tell us the exact steps you follow to take this C-RAW and upload it to Instagram, leaving nothing out. Please show us screen captures of the image in LrC (where it looks good) and the image outside of LrC where it doesn’t look good. Please also tell us or show us your export settings. Please use the “Insert Image” icon to include your screen captures in your reply.

Please do us all a favor and do not upload files. As I said, please use the “Insert Image” icon. Also please tell us the exact steps you follow to get the C-Raw into Instagram.
