The only version of lightroom I have ever used is Lightroom 5 (I currently have Lightroom 5.7 installed on a Mid 2010 Macbook Pro laptop which wit6h macOSHighSierra which I no longer use.

I would like to migrate my photos and Lightroom software over to my newer Macbook AIr 2020, and I have no idea how to do so or if is even possible.

How should I go about this and in which order?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

What version of the Mac OS is running on the MacBook Air?

You want to subscribe to the Photography Plan at Adobe at $9.99 US Dollars per month (and not the Lightroom Plan). Yes the naming is confusing. Then you want to use Lightroom Classic, the direct successor to your Lr 5. (You do not want to use the confusingly named software "Lightroom") Please note this is an annual subscription, although you can pay monthly, you are committing to a subscription that lasts 12 months and there are penalties if you cancel early.

Here are instructions on how to move everything from one computer to another. https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/ Follow the instructions exactly as written. Do not skip steps (except for the part about moving from Windows to Mac which doesn't apply to you). Do not add in additional steps (for example, do not import photos into LrC on the new computer; it doesn't say to do that, so don't do that).

Wow thank you so much for your answer dj_paige 🙂

The Macbook Air is running Ventura 13.5.1 does that change anything?

And finally pologies if this is a dumb questiion, but canI confirm that I only need to subscribe to the Photography plan and install Lightroom Classic onto the newer computer before initiating the transfer?

OS 13.5.1 should run the latest Lightroom Classic.

You want to subscribe to the Photography Plan. It doesn't matter if you intalls LrC 13.2 first, or transfer the files first.
