Question

how do I move data transferred photos into Lightroom

Thank you for considering my question/problem. Early last month, I purchased a new Imac (2023). The Apple store did the data transfer from my old machine Imac (early 2009). And that's where this story begins.

I had no idea that the new operating system (Sonoma 14.2.1) did not recognize or support Lightroom 6, where all my photo folders and collections exist. Adobe customer help told me I had to sign up for their service plan if I wanted to use Lightroom and Photoshop, so I did. My photos are in a folder in my desktop called "photos". I have no idea how to move them into Lightroom CC or eventually into photoshop for further developing. If this question seems clear to you and you have an answer, pleas respond, in layman's terms. My email is altifrons@aol.com. I have no idea how to find this post after I send it. I hope someone can help me. Thank you.

You need to follow these instructions for moving your photos and catalog to a new computer. https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/

You need to open your old Lightroom 6 catalog in Lightroom Classic. Lightroom Classic wil want to upgrade it. Do so and you're good to go.

Sorry for the late response. Johan, you were spot on, confirmed by Adobe customer support. Thanks.
