How do you folks handle 2 files of the same photo.

Hello and thank you for reading my question

What I am asking if you have a raw file and use NIK or another plugin it saves the file as a JPEG or a Tiff. I know tiff files are better and I usually save as a tiff. The issue is this creates two images of the same photo in my catalog. One processed and one raw. Do you keep both photos in your catalog or export the raw file and keep on a separate drive just incase you need the raw again.  I have watched many Lightroom programs and this never seems to be addressed.

Since they're different files types, they can coexist in your catalog.

As to where it should be stored. Some folk prefer to keep in the same folder as the original, and might even group the pair as a stack. Others keep raw and rendered files in separate folders. Both approaches are equally valid.

I keep both photos in the same folder and in the Lightroom Catalog as a stack with the edited photo at the top of the stack so that it is the one I see when the stack is collapsed.  It does not interfere with my work flow and is readily available if I need to go back to review the original.  As a mater of course, I never remove the Raw from Lightroom unless I am trashing that photo completely.
