How is Canon Highlight Tone Priority handled by Lightroom Develop?

I have a question about the processing of Canon RAW files that were shot with Highlight Tone Priority (HTP) enabled.  These images are underexposed by one stop at capture time by lowering the ISO.  For example, if you shoot at 1/2000, f/8, ISO 400, the actual exposure is done at 1/2000, f/8, ISO 200 and the file is tagged as having HTP enabled.  When you bring such a file into Canon’s DPP software, it recognizes the HTP flag, and automatically applies a special tone curve which will brighten the shadows and midtowns by one stop, but will attenuate the effect on the highlights.  My understanding is that Lightroom Develop will recognize the HTP flag, but will simply brighten the entire image by one stop without making any special accommodations for the highlights.  This is also the behavior I see when testing this out on my own.  However, I continue to see folks claiming that Lightroom Develop will behave exactly like DPP on RAW files shot with HTP.  Can someone give a definitive answer here?  Am I missing something?  Is there some option that will make Lightroom Develop behave the same as DPP on HTP-enabled files?

    Let me more specific.   I saw a claim from a well-regarded source that  DPP and LR handle HTP identically.  I tested that hypothesis by increasing my exposure until highlight alerts first appeared in camera and then shot at that exposure with and without HTP.  When I bring those two photos into DPP, the highlights are indeed blown in the image shot without HTP, but they are fine in the image shot with HTP as expected.  However, when I bring those 2 photos into LR Develop, they are completely identical in brightness and the highlights are blown in both.  This is consistent with my belief that LR simply boosts the overall exposure by one stop and does NOT apply any special tone curve because of HTP.  I questioned the well-regarded source on their claim and they insisted that LR behaves identically to DPP with respect to the handling of images shot with HTP enabled.  I was hoping to get some kind of definitive answer from Adobe as to whether or not LR does anything more than boost the overall exposure by one stop when you bring in a Canon RAW file shot with HTP.

    Isn’t your testing definitive? Given your test results, why do you need a human to tell you?

    I feel like it is, but I was hoping to possibly get some kind of evidence from an irrefutable source (e.g. Adobe itself) to convince the “well-regarded source” who again made the same claim in a video today.

    Any adjustments caused by camera settings can be identified in the Develop panels immediately after importing an image.
    Also, LrC does some automatic highlight recovery on import, which is not recorded in History or in the Basic panel.

    Other than that, different raw converters will produce different initial renderings.
    So there will be a difference between LrC and DPP.

    Adobe software cannot read camera settings in raw files unless they are written in XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform) which is an ISO Standard created by Adobe.

    Some mirrorless cameras, like the Nikon Z series, write camera settings in XMP, and the settings are automatically applied in Lightroom / Lightroom Classic / Camera Raw.
    Not sure about other mirrorless cameras,

    There is no question that Adobe can read the flag as they do automatically brighten the underexposed image and this has been the case since at least 2008 and probably earlier.  The question is do they just increase the overall brightness by one stop or do they apply a special tone curve to preserve the highlights like Canon’s DPP?
