The link in the answer doesn't work. And I still need the function to disable tag sorting.

Try this link, latest posts- (You were looking at a 2017 thread!)

TBMK, Nothing has changed. 'Alphabetic' is still the fixed default.

One suggestion made was to create Virtual Copies with Keywords specific for use of the image.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean. In the library you can select sorting:
