How to export DNG with previews?

How come some exported dng files show up as previews and others with a DNG symbol? Is there a way for all DNG exports to have a preview image?

If you exported a TIF or JPEG file as DNG then the thumbnail preview will be absent.

Confusing question, what is the source image being exported? Showing up as a preview? What file extension?

Could you post a full screen capture of the export dialog?

Where are you viewing the exported image?
