How to import only new pictures

Dear community,

sorry in case that is a real basic question.... but I didn't find an answer so far and I played around for quite a while already without success.

When importing pictures from a smart phone to LrC I'm looking for a possibility to import only "new" pictures (as I always keep a significant set of "old pics" on my phone).

When using the import function I've the options in the menu header which says "all pics" "new pics" "target folder" (translated terms as I use a German version)

My assumption was when selecting sheet "new pics" the system won't offer again the pictures I uploaded into LrC before which is not the case.

In a nutshell after I imported some of the pics now and even restarting LrC again and importing again from the same smartphone I see the already earlier uploaded pics again with a check mark preset next to  it. Means they will get uploaded again. (May be that can get handled with "duplicates" but that is not the point I'm looking for.

I'm looking for a solution where the proposal for upload excludes already what has been uploaded earlier. Is that possible at all or do I miss a basic concept. In any case what is the difference between "all pics" and "new pics"?

thanks a lot

Burkhard

Avoid duplicates does allow you to import just the new (not previously imported) photos. But if there are old pictures that were never imported into LrC, then those will be candidates for import too, and you will have to instruct LrC not to import those.

If you want to import just the photos that are newer than a certain date (let's say you just want the photos from December 1 through December 5 and nothing before that), then you'd have to select those photos somehow in the LrC Import dialog box, or in your computer's operating system you could select them and then drag and drop those into LrC.

Enabling 'Don't Import Suspected Duplicates' (see below screenshot) is intended for the purpose you describe. It's not clear from your post whether you're saying that it's not working or you believe their to be some other method.

ok thanks!

Seems I'm thinking along a wrong way.... I thought that by using the differentiator between "all pics" vs. "New pics" I could get a differentation already. But probably thats not the case. (German snapshot)

My first thought is that there is an option that says "Don't import suspected duplicates" and you have to check that (rather than leave it unchecked). See the 2nd screen capture at https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/photo-video-import-options.html

thanks!

I guess you are right (I didn't test that yet). But that is not what I want to achieve first hand. My challenge is more while keeping a significant amount of old pics on the smart phone (eg. 4000) - can I identify with the help of LrC what pictures are new since last upload into LrC and only import them only.

Or is it that I'm concerning on the wrong thing? Should I ignore that regardless that I'm on the "all pics" or "new pics" form and all pics are checked by default just switch on "avoid doublicates"..... which feels a bit weird to me because I'm than wondering what the intented difference is between "all pics" and "new pics".
