Question

how to import photos from iphone to lightroom on macbook (silicon) with icloud photos on?

I used to import photos from iphone some 6 months ago, but cant figure out how to do it now.

I connect the iphone via USB, and trust the mac.

On the mac, I can open the iphone in finder.

In the photos tab, it says "you can access every photo and video you take from any device.  To sync photos from this Mac, turn of icloud photos"

No I pay for 2TB icloud so i can have my photos from my iphone backed up automatically.

How can I get my latest photos (about 10GB i would guess) from my iphone into lightroom classic in my Mac?

I dont want to turn of icloud - if I do this backups will stop, and it will probably delete all the photos from my phone (last time I did this it did) and I lost them.

When iCloud Photos is enabled, there are two relevant options. The first, which is on by default, is "Optimize iPhone Storage"....with that setting enabled "all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your iPhone as space is needed" (from the iPhone User Guide).

However, the option below that allows you to "Download and Keep Originals", which I guess you'll need to use in order to facilitate importing from the iPhone into LrC.

The problem with iCloud Photos is that there is a setting that will offload the photos from the device, and only keep them in the cloud. On the device you'll only have a link to the photos, like an alias on the Mac. This is great to save space on the phone, but when you connect such a phone to Lightroom Classic, then Lightroom will see it as a camera allright, but it won't see any photos because there are no photos. So if you want to download your photos into Lightroom Classic, then you must make sure they are really on the phone, not just in iCloud. I don't use iCloud Photos myself, so I can't tell you how to do this without turning off iCloud Photos completely (if that is possible at all).

When I connect my iPhone 14 Pro, it shows up as a Device in the Import window.
