How to import photos from the cloud (and LR CC) to Lightroom classic?

Hi there!

Quick question : I am using daily Lightroom CC and Lightroom Mobile with a 1TB cloud storage, and I recently re-installed Lightroom Classic. The problem is that I am afraid that if I enable the Sync from LR Classic, it will erase all my photos from my cloud as LR Classic offers to "sync this catalog instead" which is empty... Is there any risk of losing my photos by sync-ing LR Classic ?

Thanks a lot for your help and sorry if this question is stupid!

Only one Classic catalog file can sync with the cloud. If you have ever before synced Classic to the cloud, it is best to make sure you open the same catalog and use that. If you don't have that catalog anymore, it is fine to select "Yes, sync this catalog instead". Classic will download everything that is on the cloud into the currently loaded catalog. At least that is what it is supposed to do. It should not erase the stuff on the cloud.

Did you originally use the migration route from LR Classic to LRCC. If so, it’s designed as a one-way process and sync is then automatically disabled in LR Classic. There should be no risk of losing photos in the cloud if you decide to sync with an empty catalog in LR Classic but each app uses its own storage system – a cache in LRCC and a folder based catalog in LR Classic. So there is a danger of file duplication, especially if you have set preferences in LRCC to store copies locally.

Thanks for the quick reply! I do not think so. I had once my catalog copied on my Imac, but I had issues syncing it to the cloud, so I moved all my files to my PC... So now I am back on my IMac with all the new updates, and this is the "one-way" process that scares me a bit!

I decided to locally store my photos from LRCC yesterday evening just to be sure I do not lose anything... So the only risk would be file duplication more than losing everything? Thanks again
