Question

How to move away from LR when I retire with 1TB of images stuck in LR?

As a semi-professional photographer for 40 years, I have more than 1TB of images all edited and tagged in LR Desktop.

Im paying £10/m to use LR.

Soon, I wont be able to afford this, as pention in UK is around £400 a month.

I am guessing I would need to spend some months/years gooing through every image/collection, exporting them along side the originals, so that I save the millions of edits before giving up the license.  I presume I will lose all my tagging and collection data.

Anyone else migrated away from LR after a liftetime of images have been put in it?

Are there any free tools to allow one to tag and search your image collection?

The answer depends on which Lightroom you are actually using. You posted your question in the Lightroom Classic forum. If you are indeed using Lightroom Classic, your photos are not in a cloud. You will continue to have access to your photos and edits with Classic after you stop your subscription. You just wont be able to further edit them.

Excellent point, @Theresa J , the Lightroom Classic Library Module will work even after the subscription expires, so all photos, all edits and all organization will still be visible in Lightroom Classic. No immediate need for @default2xj17nq3hjw2 to do anything.

You can export your photos. All your edits and user-provided metadata will be in the exported file. Your collections can be exported as a folder of images (or a hierarchy of folders of images) via a plugin, see http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/collection-publisher

I would think it might take a day or two, not months or years.
