Question

How to move multiple folders to another drive?

I can select the folders, I can pick them up, but if I drop them in the target folder on another drive nothing happens. Moving on the same drive works fine.

I don't want to move them externaly and then reimport them one by one.

Whats wrong with LR Classic?

That's not the process. There is no re-import, that in fact would be a terrible mistake. You can move them externally, and instead of re-importing, you can simply tell LrC to look on the other drive for the photos, certainly much faster than re-importing, and also you do not lose your edits and metadata as you would if you re-import. See https://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm

No It's not faster than reimporting. With reimporting I can just say "hey look for new stuff in this folder" and thats all I have to do (and on the old location look for stuff thats not there anymore). And I'm not going to lose my edits, those are stored in xmp files, I would loose the "share album" status though.

With telling LR for each folder where it is now I have a lot more work to do. Should be obvious. And as I said, not the solutioan I want. I can move them on the same drive, I should be able to move them to another.

Did you try dragging and dropping them one by one? Maybe that does work. Lightroom Classic should be able to move folders to a parent folder on another drive too, but if it does not work for some reason, then do the following. In Windows Explorer copy the folders to the other drive. Then in the Lightroom Classic folder panel right-click on the folder(s) and choose 'Update Folder Location' and select the folder(s) on the new drive.

I tried dropping one folder, that also does not work.

As for the other part I said in my post I don't want to do it outside of LR and I don't want to hit every single folder manually to update it's location.

You said you don't want to import them again one by one. If dragging and dropping does not work for some reason, then I do not know any other way of moving the folders than doing it outside of Lightroom and then 'reconnect' the folders. But like I said, Lightroom should be able to do this, so perhaps you should try to find out why it doesn't work for you. Does Lightroom have the necessary permissions to write to that drive?

One trick to make new folders behave in the folders panel. In LrC create the folder(s) then outside of LrC place a photo in the/each folder. Then in LrC sync the folder, or accomplish an import (Add) for the photo(s) in the folder(s). Now the folders panel should behave, you can delete the odd photo if desired.

Alternately, outside of LrC create the folder(s) place photos in the folder(s) ( at least one each). Then in LrC import from the new folder(s) (Add). Then the folders should behave in the folders panel.

But that's what I said I don't want to do. I don'T want to do it outside of LR and I don't want to do each folder one by one.
