How to...Printing mirror images in the print module of Lightroom CC

You can get a lot of background info from the image that they attached to their original post. It shows images in the Print module in Lightroom Classic, with text added using the Identity Plate feature. It‘s a neat idea to hack the Identity Plate to place text on the print layout, but in practice, Identity Plate wasn’t designed to be used this way.

It’s critical to understand how it’s being flipped. dj_paige mentioned the command Photo > Flip Horizontal. That command happens before the Print module, so it flips only the selected image…but not the entire Print Module layout. That is why that command doesn’t flip the Identity Plate text in the Print module.

The print module itself doesn’t have a flip feature. I think that’s because the Print module is designed for prints that might come out of a photography studio, like enlargements and print packages. The Print module is not designed for “pre-press” tasks such as CMYK color separation or a T-shirt press. Photoshop encompasses both straight photography and graphic design, so the Print dialog box in Photoshop does have a flip feature.

One thing that Barry2259314789u2 might try is to find a flip command in the printer driver software, and see if that works. This would be a feature that is outside the Print module, in the settings for the printer driver software you’re using, so that it would apply to printing from any application. This is what I show in the picture below. On the left is a standard Lightroom Classic print layout, hacking the Identity Plate to get some text on it. To get the flipped version on the right, I first clicked the Printer button at the bottom of the Print module, which opens the printer driver software options for my Epson photo printer. Then, in the driver options, I enable Flip Horizontally.

Because this happens downstream from Lightroom Classic, done by the printer driver software, I cannot tell you if your specific printer has a flip option or where it is…you have to be familiar with your printer software. But what I can tell you is that it seems like there’s a flip option in practically all of the printer driver software I’ve seen (inkjet, laser…) going back many years, so you should probably be able to find it.

If you don’t want to deal with all that, lay out the T-shirt in an application like Photoshop that has a flip option in its own Print dialog box.

Sounds like a job for Photoshop.

I remember reading of images that were 'flipped' and text not flipping in Lr-Classic, but if you want 'backwards' text then its Photoshop for sure.

When you refer to Lightroom CC, there is no software with that name. Do you mean Lightroom (Lr icon) or Lightroom Classic (LrC icon)?

If you mean Lightroom Classic, I think the Library Module command Photo->Flip Horizontal does what you want.
