I recently purchased a new laptop, running Windows 10.  I installed LR4 on the new computer and transferred all the photos from my old computer.  Then I upgraded to LR6.  I am able to locate and edit all of my old photos on either LR4 or LR6 on the new computer.  I cannot import new photos from my camera to either LR4 or LR6 on my new computer.  I get the following error message:  "The following files were not imported because they could not be read".  A related issue is that I am unable to remove (delete from hard drive) on the new computer, although I can remove them from the catalog.  What can I do?

"Cannot be read" indicates that the Destination Folder (as specified in the Import Dialog box) does not have WRITE permission in your operating system.

So, you can do either one of the following two things:

    1. Change the Destination folder to some location where you do have Write permission; OR
    2. Change the permissions in your operating system on the Destination folder so that it now has WRITE permission.

The error message may be misleading (and is misleading in case of write problems). Please check your destination at the right of the import screen.

Problem solved!  Even though I am system adminstrator, I apparently did not have "write permission" to the photo folder.  After I right-clicked on the photo file and gave "everyone" permission to do anything I could suddenly import photos and delete photos.  Thanks for the suggestions.
