In the end I didn't get any answers with solutions, only questions.

I received an email from the site asking if my problem had been resolved. sorry.

The answers didn't help me much in solving my problem. I did some more searching myself. I deleted photos, re-transferred them from the iPhone to the external drive, and then it worked. So the question is, why didn't it work the first time?  In the ends I didn't get any answers with solutions, only questions.

Do you mean that the folders on your external drive are not hsown in the Import dialog box on the left hand side under "Source"? Or do you mean they are not showing somewhere else (if so, please be very specific)?

I cannot see your screen captures, or anyone's screen captures, when they are file attachments. Would you be kind enough to provide the screen captures by using the "Insert Photos" icon instead of file attachments?

Hi @IngridVD, Thank you for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're facing.

Please share more details so that we can get a better, clearer idea about the issue, such as:

  • Your system information from Help> System info> Copy and paste it into a text file, and attach it to your response.
  • What happens exactly when you try to import?
  • Do you get an error message, or does the import dialog not show the drive/folders?
  • Have you recently updated macOS or Lightroom Classic before this issue started?
  • If you moved folders on your external drive outside Lightroom Classic, Lightroom will show them as missing. You'll need to reconnect them. Is there a question mark on any folders in the Library module's Folders panel? For more information on how to find missing photos in Photoshop Lightroom Classic, refer to this Helpx article: How to find missing photos in Photoshop Lightroom Classic.
  • Additionally, a screen recording or relevant screenshots of the import process, for example, the entire import dialog window when you try to import, and its results, would be incredibly helpful. You can share your response via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or another public file-sharing platform.

Please refer to these articles for steps to take screenshots or screen recordings:

Thanks a bunch!

Please be sure to use @ before mentioning my username so that I can be notified as soon as possible, and you can get the Help you deserve.

@Noel Orridge

sorry, previous text incorrectly written. when I want to import photos I do see them,
indicate where they should be, press import, no photos appear, takes longer than normal, after a while I abort the import and then get the message that no photos were found to import only add screenshots, hopefully this helps to clarify
where I want to import the photos. screen after clicking on import and no photos are visible takes longer than normal so I abort and report no photos found to import
place where the photos are

I cannot send a screenshot gives error
