I can't import photos

I can't import photos - every time I get the message: An unknown error occurred.

    Try renaming those JPG files without the colons [ : ] before you attempt to import.

    Lightroom-Classic includes the colon in its list of illegal characters and so may be refusing the so named JPGs.  In fact I cannot even rename a file in Windows-11 to include a colon.
