I think I trashed the update by updating my Catalog from 12 v13

Win10

Lightroom Classic v12

Updated Creative Cloud

Updated LRC to v13

Tried to place the updated catalog in a new folder, so I chose <create a new catalog>.

Now v13 LRC cannot read/import catalog dated yesterday.

(Perhaps I should have upgraded my catalog and then moved it)

Whats my next move?

Uninstall/Reinstall V12, if available, then move?

Thanks for your time.

Thank you for this prompt reply.

I do not remember seeing the dialog you posted. I was intending only to update the catalog to v13 and there was a link on that dialog that gave me the opportunity to create a new catalog. Otherwise, I would not have created a new empty catalog. As proof, I am running v13.1 now after importing my 39,000 images. I did not do a separate update to my new current update. I did not run a process to create a new catalog. Therefore, I had to be performing an update to create the new v13 catalog. I have no explanation for this, it just happened the way I described it.

Importing the images into a new catalog will not carry over your edits from the old catalog, unless you had set the old catalog to automatically write changes into XMP. (you would still lose some metadata, like edit history, ratings and collections.) By default, all edits and other metadata only exist in the catalog.

It's hard to tell from your description what actually happened, but are you seeing your old edits in the new catalog?

If not, follow the procedure I outlined in a previous post – double-click the version 12 LRCAT file (old catalog), which will launch LrC, and present you with the Catalog Upgrade dialog, where you click Upgrade.

Alternatively, go to File > Open in Lrc, and navigate to the version 12 catalog.

If you want to move the Lightroom folder, do this in the OS (Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder) with LrC closed.

Then double-click the catalog file (in File Explorer/Finder) to launch LrC with that catalog.

The catalog file has the extension .LRCAT.

Creating a new catalog is not part of the procedure.

When I performed the update from v12 to v13, a dialog came up to confirm that I wanted to perform the upgrade, and I was presented with "create and new catalog" which I read to mean, upgrade my old catalog to v13 and create it as a new catalog. When my new v13 came up with nothing in it, I imported my 39,000 files into the new catalog. Adobe has done this to me before in the years that I have their programs.

I had to wear a Scarlet Letter "S" (for sucker) on my forehead for a day or two.

There is no option to create a new catalog in the Catalog Upgrade dialog.

You must have clicked Choose a different catalog, which brings up the Select Catalog dialog, where there is an option to create a new catalog.

You have to click Upgrade in the first dialog to upgrade your version 12 catalog.

So have you successfully upgraded the catalog now? It is not clear from your post.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
