My new Canon G16 creates CR2 raw files. Apparently LR5 will not recognize them.

Hi,

G16 RAW support has been there since Lightroom 5.2 (ACR 8.2), see Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras

You will need to upgrade to Lightroom v5.2 at least.

to my knowledge, one of the solution is to use Adobe DNG Converter to convert your G16 CR2 files into DNG  (DNG converter 8.2 >>> The Adobe DNG Converter is a free utility that enables you to easily convert camera-specific raw files from more than 350 cameras to the more universal DNG raw format. >>>
