iMac CPU 250%+ freezing - can't edit :(

My iMac just can't run LRC anymore. The CPU is freezing up everything, even moving the exposure slider is delayed and useless.

I have 3.4 Quad-Core i5

Radeon Pro 570 4GB card

32GB RAM

Running Ventura 13.6.3

I've deleted the library, closed all other programs when using, rebooted, freed up RAM - even with just LRC running, CPU freezes the whole system.

I need some help 😞

Thanks!

Correct answer WolfieMedia

Buggy graphics drivers account for a large fraction of flaky behavior reported here. So disabling the GPU is a quick diagnostic. On older GPUs and with less than 4K displays, the GPU often gives little performance benefit.

Got start diagnosis somewhere I guess. However, I think if it was buggy, it would be buggy with all software, not just with LRC. Also, this is a 5K display 🙂 Well, it actually appears to be fixed now! Ironically, it was the GPU - but it was throttled back. I set it to custom and enabled full graphics acceleration - bingo! Zippy again 🙂

Cheers!

As a first diagnostic step, try setting Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Off. Does that help?

Thanks for the reply John 🙂

...this sounds completely counterintuitive, but I gave it a go anyway. As supspected, it was much worse 😞
