iMac M1 slow

Question

Help please! I've got a new M1 iMac with 8GB of RAM and it is very slow exporting and even while editing in LR the machine will prompt me to close applications because memory is running short. Is there anything I can do for this? Or do I just need to upgrade to a model with more RAM? We had a 2012 iMac with 8GB that ran for about 8 years without much problem. It got slower over the years but I never had memory issues like I do now. Thanks

If you're seeing a message advisng to close apps to free up memory, then 8GB is clearly insufficient. Hopefully, you're still within the 14 day return period that Apple offers as this will make the swap to 16GB realively easy.
