Images not opening in Photoshop when transferred from Lightroom

I note that many users have had problems when trying to "edit in Photoshop"when trying to do so from inside Lightroom where the picture opens but that all the editing options are greyed out.  I do not have the same problem!  I my case when I click on "edit in Photoshop 2019" Photoshop opens and stops at a grey screen- the picture simply is not there! 

This occurs whether I start Photoshop before trying to transfer the picture or just allow Lightroom to open it for me.

I can open an image directly from my hard drive by right clicking and selecting "open with photoshop 2019" so I suspect not a Photoshop problem.

Using Photoshop 20.0.2 and Lightroom Classic 8.1, which I believe are the latest version of each.

    One odd possibility, in LR, have it show image location in finder, make sure you are pointing to the correct image file.

    OK I seem to have solved the problem for now.

    When I imported the images into LR for the first time, I had the programme copy them to an external drive as well as importing them onto the Hard drive, thus I hd a back up of my images.

    I have now “ejected” the external drive, and images open in PS from LR with n problem- with or without LR adjustments. I am very happy.

    I have yet to see what happens if (when) I reconnect the external drive!

    This one seems very unlikely

    Using google to research this, several possibilities are discussed but nit absolutely  proven, one issue being fixing more than one symptom or hunch at a time.

    some if the thoughts, not in a particular order

    1. When In PS (via edit in PS from LR) verify OS version. Older version mitcmatch. Does not seem likely, but check.

    2. Buggy install if NIK plugins

    3. Need to reset preferences in PS (and if you try that, do LR as well)

    P.S. not that this is the issue, but verify your ACR version (11.1), would cause a mitchmatch, not a failure

    I have visited both the sites you suggest and have done everything mentioned in them - downloading the ps_picker plugin, reinstalling LR and PS and I still have the same problem. i am open to any ideas please!
