Import and copy speeds are slower after update

As soon as I upgraded to Sonoma and with LR 13.0 Classic, the speed of copying and importing to my catalog has fallen to the speed of a snail. Of course I have tried copying the files to the drive and then importing, but it makes very little difference. The pace is funereal and if I have any decent number of files I just have to leave the import and find something else to do for a few hours (yes, not minutes). I am a professional and I cannot say to clients "oh I'm sorry it will be a day late for delivery, but Adobe is too slow" . 

Do Adobe not get involved in beta testing? There really is no excuse for this kind of appalling performance. I have LS since version 5. Version 13 may well be may last if Adobe do not get their act in gear and fast.
