Question

Import > Destination not writable > Encrypted?

I have an external drive that I’m trying to use as the import destination for my images. Lightroom keeps telling Me the destination is not writable. I assume this is because the drive is encrypted? Can anyone confirm? I can’t seem to find anything that says you cannot import to an encrypted disk.

I don't understand why it would not just prompt me for a password like any other app.

What OS are you using? If you're on a Mac and the drive is NTFS formatted, then you'll get this error because MacOS can read, but not write to such a disk. Encryption should not be a problem on a Mac, because you'll get a dialog to decrypt it (enter the encryption password) as soon as it mounts.

This is pretty frustrating for you!!

Can I ask why you think the drive is encrypted? We could not confirm this without some sense of detail from your OS but thats not always easy to share.

If you are on a Mac, maybe the drive is not mounted? You can set it to mount once the drive is live or powered up from within Finder I believe.

If the drive is encrypted, then yes I would imagine Lightroom would provide some sort of error message. But confirm ... I can't as I have never tried using an encrypted disk. You might experiment by turning off the encryption temporarily and see what happens.
