Import DNG Creation in Lr Classic Preferences has no info if LOSSLESS or LOSSY

Another half heated Adobe thing, the Lr Classic 9.1 preferences tab "File handling" do not show, if the dng conversion is done lossless or lossy - the most important thing in terms of quality is missing;

Why not simpy utilise the same dialog box as of "Library/Convert Photos to DNG"??????? - I really don't get this developing inefficiency thing. Why inventing the wheel twice? Here it is as expected:

Btw: the version and build info may still not copy & pasted from "About" box. Super frustrating, millions of people complaining this since years.

Besides on Mac: GPU may be checked but is since ever and most probably forever not used at all - ZERO percent 😞 - and the Radial/Zoom Blur filter in Photoshop has still no preview - me and hundred thousands of others complaining this since 2004 (as far as I may remember, this was the date of introduction to this filter).

Second screenshot concerns when Lightroom Classic creates a DNG file, in this case, when you convert. Comparing APples to Oranges.

Your first screen is about Import. Lightroom Classic would be at the mercy of the source, the camera, or the external RAW converter for if the DNG files is Lossy or Lossless. Or are you refering to the optiopnal embedd JPEG?

In his text on the screen capture the OP says that he actually wants LOSSLESS, which is good because it is in fact the only possibility. Thus his complaint regarding the lack of selection boxes in the GUI where none exists is pointless and frivolous.

The first screen shot is of preferences, where this selection option is clearly missing.
The second screenshot is from the Lr Classic menu item "Library". There is no information nor guarantee settings there will be adapted by "Copy as DNG" on import.
So: nothing pointless nor frivolous. Lack of continuity in the development departmens of Adobe. Left hand does not know what the right one is doing (as we say in German).

I suggest you raise this as a request, using the link below. That is the forum where the Adobe Engineers will get to see it. Others can then vote and if there is sufficient demand for your idea it could get implemented in a future update.

It’s not available by default when importing as DNG. Lossy entails demosaicing the data so the assumption must be that users would wish to preserve the raw data. You can select lossy on export as DNG.

Or batch convert your raw files using the stand-alone DNG converter and then use:

Import >> Add

Thanks, but I am sure you agree, this is quite a extra workaround, if it could be done directly. Waste of time and ressources: I got a a7R4 and Sony's compressed ARW is NOT lossless. So, I highly recommend to all Sony shooters never ever to shoot Compressed ARW until Sony does not implement a lossless compression to firmware. Click here to read a quite interesting article on this. Best is RAF of Fuji's GFX medium format cameras.

So, the idea is instead of importing the uncompressed ARW 130 MB each first and then in a second step convert it to DNG (lossless of course, but it's shrinked down to 60 MB lossless compressed DNG, if you add full size preview files will be 80 MB).

The Adobe DNG Importer is a fine thing as beta, if already cameras are supported which in Camera Raw (and Lr) release are still missing.
