I have always imprted direct form the cameras without issue. 
I have just tried using a card reader with the same result. Only if I copy from the card reader to a new folder on the PC can I drag & drop.
I would prefer not to reset Preferences if possible? System ifo follows:

Do you use a card reader or are the cameras directly connected to the PC?

If the cameras directly connected try to use a card reader.

I wonder if it is anything to do with the recent ipdate to 15.1? (System Info attached)

If this doesn't also help we need more informations about your system. Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

Please don't insert the info as an attachment. There's a fault into the foren software that don't show the content directly.
