Question

Import from card problems when iPhone plugged in.

I think I have found part of the problem since switching from my stand alone Lightroom to Lighroom Classic.  When I import from an external card and I tell Lightroom that the source is my card, it will show the preview icons on import for both my iPhone and card.  I could just make sure my phone is not charging while importing, but this seems like a problem  that should be addressed by Adobe, that is unless it's just me.

This is totally off the wall. And there are probably users, experts, etc. who will tell you NOT to do this. But I have Lightroom (for the cloud) installed on my computer along with Lightroom Classic. I don't use it for editing. However, I have it synchronized with Classic. I also have Lightroom installed on my iPhone. When I take a picture with my iPhone, I have Lightroom configured to automatically pick up images from my camera roll. And as soon as I go to my computer the images are in Lightroom and subsequently Lightroom Classic. I don't have to connect the phone to the computer at all. Works for me. I don't take a lot of pictures with my phone. It isn't necessary to automatically send camera roll pictures to Lightroom and consequently to the computer, but that's the way I do. The other option is to selectively add from the camera roll.

Since you are using Lightroom Classic, you are also entitled to install Lightroom for the cloud. It takes a while to get your head around that concept and maybe you don't want to do it. If it confuses you at all then DON'T even consider it. It took a couple of years for my workflow to sinking. But then I'm an old buzzard anyway.
