Question

Import preview unavailable for this file

Hi,

Suddenly, I am getting the above message, when trying to import RAW files  in LR 4.3.  I tried with two different cards and two different Readers.

When I click on Import, I get a blank thumbnail of all the photos with the message in it.  I was able to see the photos in Finder on the Compact Flash card with no problem.

I have LR and camera up to date for a while, so nothing different has been done that I know of.

I would appreciate help on this matter.

Thank you!

Gloria

I had a bunch of tif files with the same problem.  I found the ICC profile was invalid, I corrected this by importing into photoshop, made a small adjustment/correction and saved. This fixed the problem.

Cornelia and ssprengel,

I just Backed up and Optimized my catalog - Restarted my computer - Verified Permissions (didn't see any one related to Lightroom) and all is well!

So whatever it was, it fell back into place :-)

I really appreciate your efforts to help!

Thank you!

Hi Gloria,

Can you import these images none the less into LR?

If yes, it does not matter, as LR will create its own previews after import anyhow.

If not, it might be a sign that these files are corrupted. Which still can be, even if other programs can view the embedded jpg-preview.

Good luck, Cornelia

Hi, Cornelia!

No, they will not import.  I get a message saying that LR was unable to import.  I can't remember exactly the message.  I had to copy from the card in Finder and then Syncronize folder in LR.

Thank you!

Sounds like the images are being corrupted. Is the difference between the corrupted images whether you are importing directly from the camera inside of LR vs copying using finder and importing from the HD?
