Question

Import/Rename RAW files already in their proper folder. LR ADD\Rename is not available

I have RAW files that are already named cocrrectly, in their proper folder, that I have from ON1.

I had to do that because ON1, among other glitches, refused to Import. Clicked Import and it just popped out to its previous screen. So, I had to copy some RAW files into their proper folders, so I could reformat my camera cards, and wait until I got my LR set up

But, these RAW files also Need To Be Renamed.

Rename is not available in Import/Add.

I do know that I can rename files anytime after import (everything done in LR, not File Manager), but it extends my workflow time.

The other thing that I don't know is if I Import/Copy and select the folders that the files are alreay in, will they rename And Replace the RAW filenames, or will LR rename and leave the RAW files in that same folder?

Thanks.

That is as designed. 'Add' does just that: it adds existing images to the catalog only. To rename an image you'll have to copy it. Or you can rename them after they have been imported.

If you use copy+rename and select the source folder as destination, then you'll get duplicates. One copy with the original name (not imported in Lightroom but present in the folder) and one copy with the new name (and imported in Lightroom). So rename after import.
