Importing raw files from camera to lightroom -

How can I ensure raw files from my camera are imported to my external hard drive and not my C drive? The C drive keeps crashing with overload. Thanks/

You control this in the Destination panel on the right hand side in the import dialog.

If you can't see it, right click one of the other panel headers (like File Handling) and choose Destination from the context menu.

You should also move all your photos on the C: drive to the external drive.

It is possible to move them in LrC, but for large numbers it is better to move them with the File Explorer, and then reconnect them in LrC, which will report them as missing, since they are no longer where it expects to find them.

Thanks so much - this is really helpful. I've tried that and it's worked and will now put all images on the external hard drive as you suggest. 🙂

Thanks - I've realised I have to click on MOVE or ADD for the destination folder to appear. Now it's worked and can move them to external hard drive

Actually, you have to click in Move or Copy, not Add. Add will add the images to the catalog without moving or copying them, so you won't see a destination because there is no destination in that case.
