Importing Raw Files When Not Connected - Best Practices

I currently use LR Classic on my desktop at home, connected to an external with all Raw files - and then use Smart previews and a catalog on an external so I can edit and export on my laptop when not at home. When I get back, everything syncs up. I usually import Raw files directly into my desktop system and build previews on import. Works great for me.

My question is, what if I wanted to import Raw files while I am outside my home? To reiterate, I want to get the Raw files into my current workflow / LR Ecosystem when I am not on my desktop, and not connected to my Raw Files external drive.

How would one go about doing this?

Thanks to anyone who can help me out here !

Import the files to your internal hard disk. Then when you get home, connect the external disk, and move them to the external disk by dragging and dropping them in the Lightroom folder panel.

Might help if you describe your home rig a bit more, and if you clarify where you keep your catalog, where you keep your images (imports and exports)

Home rig

Desktop yes?

How many internal drives

How many external drives

And describe your backup workflow, is it a backup or a copy, and are images included, and what drive(s)

Laptop, any external hard drive?

Oh, and OS of both desktop and Laptop (an issue if one is WIN, one is MAC)
