In LR Classic can I edit (add or subtract) a clone?

I'm trying to erase background using the clone stamp tool.

I don't see an automatic masking (is there one?) that would prevent drawing over an edge  in error, so I'm freehanding.  When I do, I will sometimes draw the stamp too far over an edge of the object I wasnt to keep.  Is there any way to edit the area of the clone?

I assume you mean the Spot Removal tool. No, there's no way to mask with it. You can delete them or move them though. If it's a circular spot, you can drag the edge in or out, but not with drawn spots.

The clone stamp tool is not part of the masking tools. It is an entirely different tool.
