Incorrect brush behaviour when in HDR mode

I have been experiencing a problem with the brush in Lightroom Classic 14.5.1 on my MacBook Pro running MacOS 15.6.1. When selecting to create a new mask, using the brush tool I used to see the cursor showing the size/shape of the brush straight away. Just recently I noticed this behaviour change and the cursor reverted to the arrow as soon as I moved it. It would only go back to the brush shape after clicking in the photo. Adobe took over my computer and seemed to solve the problem, but as soon as the remote session ended the problem returned.

I have since discovered that this unusual brush behaviour only happens when I am in HDR mode. As soon as I revert to SDR mode the brush behaviour normalises.

I can't reproduce the issue you describe. The brush cursor is normal whether I create the mask in SDR or HDR mode.

Have you tried resetting the LrC preference file?

As pointed out by Ian Lyons, resetting your preferences will help make sure that we are not working with any stale or corrupted configurations. Check out this HelpX article for steps and more info: How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences

Also, Go to Lightroom Classic > Settings > Performance. Locate the Use Graphics Processor dropdown menu, set it to Off, and restart Lightroom Classic to see if the problem disappears.

Make sure you have the latest Mac OS running on your system as well.
