Internal Error: Multiple Matching entities

When selecting mutiple photos and attempting to update Metadata fields (ie., adding 'Buffalo' to the [City] IPTC data field), Lightroom returns the following error:

An internal error has occurred

AgStoreProviderSession:getEntity():

Multiple matching entities

Metadata fails to write to database.

Subsequent attempts to write metadata updates will fail without warning, wether I attempt to write changes to the same set of photos or a completely new set.  Reopening Lightrooom "resets" this failure.

Any ideas as to cause and or solution?
