Ok ...the images are sail visible and accessible. Having wiped my iMac (24" circa mid 2010) clean installed Sierra. reloaded Adobe Creative Suite and Lightroom 4. Then put the Archive of photos back in the Pictures folder and then replaced the ircat and irc at data folders in the Lightroom folder.

Was that the right thing to to do? Replae the ircat and data?

The images are loading fine. Except for the total crash when I switch on the camera, I guess its ok...

It asks me at launch if I want to upgrade to LR 4.4 I follow the link and I cannot find the patch.

Do I need it? Should I get LRCC Classic?

I have over 30,000 photos to keep safe with Lightroom  little capacity to trawl the books/internet looking for answers the way I used to! I need this all to work securely. The crashes make me nervous, although I do have3 copies of the Archive, a;; edits have been done in Lightroom. Do you gurus have any advice?

Explain "replace". Replace what with what? What are the exact steps you used? Leave nothing out.

I don't think there is an update to LR 4.4. (Maybe there was a minor update to 4.4.1, I can't remember). You could upgrade (which means you have to pay Adobe money).

Well that's up to you if you need it.

The photos on the hard disk are visible. I will try another way of downloading from the camera and let you know how that goes. Than you!

Ok.. I tried to get you a screen grab, but now :Lightroom crashes as soon a I connect my camera!

First I opened Lightroom saw an update notice to update to 4.4, pressed the button to do so, it took mr here...

I pressed Lightroom and came to a downloads page where updated were available only up yo Lightroom 3.

I was unsure what to do so returned to what I had and...

Second I opened Lightroom, connected camera and switched it on. Crash.

Third I attached and switched on my camera, launched Lightroom. Crash.

All  ideas and help much appreciated

Can you copy the photos from the camera card to your hard disk with Lightroom shut down? If so, can you import the photos from your hard disk?

If the question is: will Lightroom run? Then the answer is YES.

If the question is: will you be able to use this card for graphics accleration in Lightroom 6/Lightroom CC 2015/Lightroom Classic CC? Then the answer is NO.

Why are you looking at a new graphics card anyway? What problem are you trying to solve?

The graphics card will have nothing to do with your ability to import photos.

If you describe the problem you are having when you import, and give us the exact error message, maybe we can help.
